Back in 1992, my twin brother Scott Jacob and I were both full-time college students and full-time swing-shift employees at a produce warehouse. We were also totally underwhelmed by the monotony of the work that stretched before us. We were busy, but bored. We loved Spokane, but knew we could do more to help our favorite city grow.
One day, on a highly caffeinated road trip across the state, I noticed a drive-thru espresso stand. This was it–what Spokane needed was drive-through coffee, so that we could sing our siren song of awesome beans made into motivating drinks to fuel our friends and build our local economy while sharing our passion! Opportunity had met our passion and motivation. The ideas foamed like steamed milk all the way home, and I couldn’t wait to tell Scott.
When Scott heard about the idea, he agreed and we purchased an old photo development hut, moved it to 6th and Washington creating Spokane’s first drive-thru coffee, quit our jobs, and got busy frothing up a new coffee paradigm in Spokane!
Jacob’s Java now has six stands, with our Monroe location offering indoor seating! Because we are always highly caffeinated and want to never be bored, we even began our own bean roasting company, Gemelli Coffee Roastery. To this day, you’ll often find one or both of us handcrafting coffee drinks from our locally roasted beans for our awesome customers.
We look forward to serving you your favorite drink from Jacob’s Java – Spokane’s first drive-through espresso!
